Be Strong - Art Journal Page by Farrel Tailor

Hello Lovelies!!! I'm back again with another art journal page using lots of yummy mixed media products. Make sure you click on the video at the end of the post if you would like to see how I created this page.

Ok so let me give you a brief run down of how I created this page - I started by blending Dylusions Paint Funky Fuchsia and Crushed Grape using a mini blending tool all over my page. I did use an older receipt book as my patterned paper and adhered it with Art Basics 3D Gloss Gel.

Next I used 13 Arts Ayeeda Paint - Matte Green with a stencil from my stash. I love this colour, it's so vibrant!! I'm like a moth to the flame with this colour. lol

I then stamped my Prima Princess Madeline onto tissue paper using Versafine Onyx Black and used Dylusions White Linen to to adhere her to page. I used the white paint as I wanted the colours to pop on my princess and not have the pink and purple to come through.

To colour my princess I used Distress Crayons Set#1 and Distress Crayons Set #3 (Antique Linen), I used my water pen with the crayons to create a watercolour type mixture. I used Prima Color Philosphy Ink Pad - Midnight Blue for her hair and added a little in her eyes. I did also add some of the 13 Arts Ayeeda Paint - Matte Green to her eyes and I loved how they turned out.
I thought Madeline needed a little more vibrant colour so I used 13 Arts Ayeeda Waterbased inks - Yellow, Scarlet and Bordeaux. These colours are amazing!!!

For my border I used a Uni Posca 0.7mm black pen and also used it to draw over the top of the stencil. I splattered using the Dylusions White Linen and Prima Color Philosphy Ink Pad - Midnight Blue. Last of all added some stamping and voila another art journal completed.

Thanks for dropping by and until next time - Happy Scrappin' xx

New Beginning Art Journal page By Farrel Tailor

Hello Lovelies!!! I'm back today to share with you all my mixed media art journal page I created using Dina Wakley Heavy Body Paint and Darkroom Door Grunge Stamp Set.

So let me step you through the process and there is also a process video at the end for anyone wanting to see how I created it.

I started by lightly coating my page with white gesso. Then using a dry brush I applied Dina Wakley's Heavy Body Acrylic Paints - Magenta, Fuchsia, White, Turquoise, Lime, Lemon and Black. (All products are linked to the store.) I used my apron to wipe off the access paint as I didn't want to have a wet brush....using a dry brush gives you the amazing brush stroke texture to the paint.

I then used Dylusions Stencil 5 x 8" Modern Script stencil with Turquoise paint and applied it using my mini blending tool. I also sprayed the stencil with water and used the reverse side as a stamp.

Next I used Darkroom Door Grunge Stamp Set with my acrylic paint and stamped onto the page.
Once it was dry I then cut out my butterfly which I printed on my computer using a free printable from Pinterest. I adhered the butterfly using Prima 3D Gel Medium.

I used the acrylic paints to add colour to the wings on the butterfly and mixed my black and white paints with a small amount of water to add some splatters. The reason for adding water to the paint is because the paint is heavy there is no way I could splatter as it, do diluting it with water allows you to use this technique. I used a small paint brush for the splatter.

Last of all I used a stamp set in my stash for the sentiment and there you have it...another art journal page!!!

Until next time Happy Scrappin' and thanks for dropping by

Magnolia Jane layout with Kylie

Hi lovelies! Kylie here again today with a layout I have created using the new 'Magnolia Jane' collection by Heidi Swapp, now in the sassy store.

This range has So.Much.Pink and florals! Of course I wanted to play with it! I wanted to create purely with paper. So I haven't used much in the way of ephemera or die cuts.I wanted to create blooms from the paper alone.I did so using just a flower punch and several flower dies.
Here is a little look at my completed layout......

Before I get to the flowers, let's talk about the background. I have fussy cut squares from the 'Georgian Charm' cardstock, distressed the edges a little before gluing them as a diamond sequence.

I also distressed and curled the edges of the background paper a little too.I used 'Flea Market' as a border piece and 'Blushed' as a background paper. It had a beautiful watercolour print to it.

Can you tell yet I love flowers?? I used three different flower  punches to create this cluster, as well as two different leaf dies. I was super happy at how it came together.I have used pearl drops and enamel dots from my stash to centre them.

One thing I always like to encourage is never skip out on the little details. If you look closely you can see some tiny little daisy flowers I punched from paper. They were so small and so fine that you could easily think they won't make that big a difference to your layout if you didn't add them. But once it all comes together you can see the effect of having them tucked in there.

To finish off I added some fine gold splatters as well as a few white.
(Note- The quote round and printed doilies were from my stash and not part of this collection.)

I hope you have enjoyed my project this week.Until next time,
Kylie xo

Agnus | Hand Stitched Elements

Hi again, I've got a scrapbook layout to share this time with a few tips for using hand stitching as a design element on your projects and have combined pattered papers from the new Simple Stories Faith and Simple Stories Domestic Bliss collections for a fun a colourful layout featuring me with my little guy.

I absolutely love the paint stroke design of the 'Shine' paper and wanted the majority of the design to remain visible on the finished page so I decided to keep my page design simple with a few paper layers built up beneath my photos and a scatter of stitched hearts that added interest to my page but still allowed the background paper to show through.

Hand stitching is a great way to add detail to your projects and I have found that the key to getting good results is even spacing as well as even tension with each stitch. When stitching straight lines, I always use a ruler and pierce the paper at even intervals, however when stitching curved shapes the spacing is a little different - smaller intervals around each curve work best as they help to produce a nice flow and reduce harsh angles.

I often use a template for shapes as it allows me to move it around the page and see exactly where the stitching will be placed.  You can use a variety of different methods to create a template, such as a printed design, die-cut shape or a simple hand drawn shape as I have done here.

Place your paper and template onto either a piercing matt or old mouse pad and use a piercing tool or a simple headed pin to pierce the design all the way through the paper. You may want to use washi tape to hold you template in place to prevent it from moving.
I went with a satin embroidery floss for this page in a complementary colour and used a simple back stitch to create the hearts. Satin floss can be a little temperamental at times but by ensuring that each stitch was created with even tension I was able to produce even results.

I have used a single strand of floss that I doubled over once it was threaded through my needle. You may want to create a knot on the end of your thread prior to pulling it through the page, but I prefer to leave the end loose and then tie it to my working thread after I have created a couple of stitches as it helps to keep the tension tight. Flipping the paper over to the back to see where the next pierced mark will be is helpful for when you are starting out and even though this may slow things down a little this method helps to keep the tread tension tight and keeps the stitches nice and even - just be sure you don't pull too tight or the paper will tear ;)
