Oh The Places You'll Go | Simple Stories Travel Notes | Tarrah McLean

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am sharing a new layout using the brand new Travel Notes collection by Simple Stories!

When I saw the red arrow paper from this collection, I knew that it may have been a little bit too much to use as a full piece so cutting out a cut file using it was the perfect alternative! I absolutely love this globe cut file and have not used it before now!

The large chipboard airplane, I will admit, I didn't think it would ever end up on a layout as its a little bit big for my liking but I just love how it balances the page sitting up there in the sky!

Another confession is I may have already scrapbooked this photo but it really is a lovely photo of my eldest son looking at some countries he would like to go to one day! The perfect photo for this layout!

Check out the Sassy store for this awesome travel collection plus so much more now!

Happy creating!

Hello Let's Go | Simple Stories Travel Notes | Tarrah McLean

Hi there Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean back you and today I am excited to be sharing my first layout with you creating using a new collection!

This month I am working with the gorgeous Travel Notes collection by Simple Stories!

If you know me, another of my passions is traveling so I have plenty of travel photos to use this collection hopefully easy!

Firstly I decided to cut a large title cut file from one of the dark blue papers, I popped it up using some foam tape for some dimension!

Once the cut file was adhered to the cardstock, I placed my photo towards the bottom of the page allowing part of the cut file to overlap onto the photo. I love doing this is it gives off a flowing and uniform looking design.

The ephemera, stickers and wood veneer were added to brighten and bring more interest to the page! I love to overlap my embellishments, l like how it all comes together when things are overlapped!

The only thing added from my stash this week is the airplane flair button over on the left hand side! I have had that flair button for ages!!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Sassy blog today!
Check out this collection in the Sassy store plus there are loads more new goodies too!

Happy creating!

Art Journal | Heidi Swapp Hawthorne | Agnus Kasprzak

Hi again :) I'm still playing with the awesome Heidi Swapp Hawthorne collection and thought it would be fun to use this range for something a little differenet and create an art journal collage.

I began by cutting out a section of the reverse side of the 9th & 9th patterned paper (the size you use will depend on the size of your journal) then tore the left hand side and layered a couple of the printed manufacturing strips along the opposite edge.

Next I used a fine line marker with rough sketchy strokes to define some of the flowers from the Midnight and Hawthorne patterned papers.

I cut out the images and attached the largest one to my paper layers with washi tape to create a tip-in to hold my journaling as an easy way to add an interactive element to my page that basically consists of a strip of washi tape on two sides of your added items to form a hinge that allows you to view both sides of the item you have added.

Making off the manufacture's strips with more washi, I used a blending tool to apply a thin coat of gesso over the patterned paper - be sure to keep in mind that patterned paper does not do well with a lot of moisture so be sure to keep all of your paint layers on these pieces fairly light.

I applied some paint over the reverse side of my tip in tag through a stencil then adhered a torn strip of tissue paper using matte gel medium and added more of the fussy cut floral images over the top with a label and a couple of the word jumble stickers to finish.

Moving onto the art journal, I applied a thin coat of gesso then used acrylic paint with a brush to lay down a base of colour. I like to keep my layers light and gradually build up the colour in long sweeping strokes.

To give the page more depth, I added layers of gesso over the acrylic then removed some of the sections with a baby wipe to reveal the colours underneath and repeated the process of adding more layers and wiping them away until I achieved a look I was happy with. Once the paint was dry I used my scribble sticks to add a layer of rough sketchy strokes that followed the direction of the paint. My previous post showed how well the scribble sticks wok with water, but this time I opted for a dry method.

I then applied some detail with a couple of background stamps along the left hand edge of the page, and flicked on some droplets of distress ink then allowed this to dry before using more gel medium to attach my paper layers to the page along with one of the acetate words used to complete a hand written quote.

While my first post featuring this range with a traditional layout showed how to apply the foil flakes onto a large area of patterned paper, I wanted a more defined look for my journal and used a fine tip glue pen to draw over areas of the floral images then applied the flakes over the top - using a dry stencil brush to burnish the flakes onto the adhesive.

Summer | Pink Paislee Summer Lights | Tarrah McLean

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am sharing another Summer themed layout using the Pink Paislee Summer Lights collection! As Summer is now drawing to a close, I have some new shares for you next week using a new collection!

I was hoarding that pretty paper from the Summer Lights collection as I just adore it! I wanted to give it a good send off when I used it so I picked a cut file that reminded me of the sun rays and cut it out with my Cameo. I then machine stitched in between all the sun rays and I love how it turned out!

Once I had that main part done, the rest just fell into place, I used some of the leftover ephemera pieces, chipboard stickers and small stickers to embellish and layer around my photo!

Those chippie thongs are so cute! I just had to add them to a layout! I was so glad I could use some of my left overs from this awesome collection!

I hope you have checked out this collection plus so much more in the Sassy store?

Happy creating!
